How Does the Technology Work?
HIT tracks and records the force of head impacts while attached to your helmet, headguard, headband or a surfing hood. Our App displays impact levels using a simple traffic light warning system based on G-force, linear acceleration and cumulative G-force load measurements. By combining these data points, HIT provides a clearer, more reliable view of brain stress and fatigue, helping athletes, parents, and coaches make smarter decisions about when to rest, recover, or continue training.
- Green indicates low-force impact, typically safe and allowing the user to continue without restriction.
- Yellow signals a moderate force where caution is advised; multiple yellow impacts in one session should prompt a check-up.
- Red represents a high-force impact, and users are advised to stop activity, assess, and seek medical attention if necessary.
The App provides a logbook feature to review past recordings and monitor return-to-play or return-to-play timelines. HIT technology includes GPS tracking and memory storage for up to 12 hours without smartphone connection, enabling speed and performance analytics.
Is HIT a Medical Tool?
No, HIT is not a medical or diagnostic tool. It’s designed to support head impact awareness, helping users make informed decisions about their well-being. HIT products provide live data on the magnitude of head impacts, empowering users to take appropriate action.
Does the App Follow Standard Concussion Grading?
The app follows standard NHS and official concussion guidelines for identifying symptoms. While the App and device can help indicate potential concussion risk, they are designed as tools to support observation and prompt users to check for symptoms if needed.
What Do the Head Impact Colors Mean?
- Green Impact: Represents a typical, low-force movement common to your sport or activity.
- Amber Impact: Indicates a force higher than usual and should be met with caution; if multiple amber impacts are recorded, users should consider precautions similar to a red impact.
- Red Impact: Signifies a high-force impact. Users are advised to recognize the impact, remove themselves from activity, and seek medical assessment. For red impacts, HIT recommends consulting a healthcare professional for further advice.
The ATHLETE App
How Do I Connect My Device to the HIT ATHLETE App?
Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and download the HIT ATHLETE App (App) from the App Store for iOS users or Google Play for Android users. Then, follow the in-App instructions to set up a unique user profile and connect your device.
Do I Need to Be Connected to Wi-Fi for My Device and App to Work?
No, Wi-Fi is not required to use the device and the App. The device connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and its internal memory stores impact and GPS data when Bluetooth is not active. Simply press "Record" in the HIT Athlete App to automatically download this data to your smartphone. You can then access and download it to your computer via the cloud.
Sharing Your Data with Others
The HIT Athlete App's sharing functionality is designed to improve visibility, support, and collaboration within your trusted performance or care network. You can share your logbook data with up to three users, such as coaches, clinicians, parents, or teammates, providing them with greater insight and support through access to your activity logs and impact data.
To use this feature, navigate to the app settings, tap "Sharing," and add the email addresses of your selected contacts. Once they accept, their shared logs will appear in the "Shared Logs" tab under the Logs section.
Please note, the person must also have the Athlete App to access your data, although they do not need to purchase a HIT device.
Following Others in the App
The HIT Athlete App allows you to follow athletes within your trusted performance or care network, helping you stay informed and provide meaningful support. As a follower, you can view shared logbook data from up to three athletes, such as riders, players, children, or teammates, giving you visibility into their activity logs and impact data.
To follow an athlete, they must invite you via the Sharing feature in their app settings. Once you accept the invitation, their shared activities will appear in the Shared Logs tab within the Logs section of your app.
Please note that you must also have the HIT Athlete App installed to access shared data, but you do not need to purchase a HIT device.
Crash Detection
Crash detection is a safety feature of HIT technology. When signing up, users can add an emergency contact and set an adjustable impact threshold. If a crash exceeds this threshold, the device sends a text with the user’s last known location to their contact. A 45-second window allows the user to cancel the alert.
Types of Activities
You can choose from a range of activity categories to help distinguish between workouts and leisure time, including downhill and road cycling, rugby, football, motocross, research, and other.
When you tap Record, the app will prompt you to select the type of activity. You can also change the activity type later. To do this, open an activity in your log and tap into it. At the top of the screen, next to the date and time, use the dropdown menu to update the activity or sport.
Editing Your Recording
You can edit the start and end times of your activities at any time. To do this, go to your Log, select an activity, then tap More options in the top right-hand corner and choose Edit start/end points. A new window will open, allowing you to adjust the timings. As you make changes, the app will update the map in real time to provide greater clarity and accuracy.
How Will My App Receive Software Updates?
You will be prompted by the App and your App store to install the latest updates when they become available. Updates will include both App improvements and any hardware enhancements delivered via Bluetooth.
How Do I Connect Both of My Children’s Devices to the App?
The app currently supports one profile per phone. However, you can still follow your favourite rider or your children using the Sharing feature. To set this up, go to Settings, enable Sharing, and add the email addresses of the people you would like to share your activities with. Once they accept your request, your shared activities will appear in their Shared Logs tab within the Logs section.
To receive notifications about a crash incident—including location and impact severity—you must be added as an emergency contact for that user.

Who is HIT for?
HIT products are designed for individuals and teams participating in activities where protective headgear is required or advantageous, such as rugby, ice hockey, equestrian sports, mountain biking, cycling, motocross, skiing, and snowboarding. Additionally, our devices are used in various non-helmeted sports that are still prone to head impact like college wrestling, surfing, football, and field hockey. Can Anyone Wear a HIT Device?
Yes. HIT devices suit all ages and skill levels. The universal attachment is designed for hard-shell helmets, with no restrictions on age or head size. How Can My Child Benefit from Using HIT?
HIT device provides impact monitoring to help catch head impacts that might otherwise go unreported or unnoticed. Attached to a child’s helmet, HIT sends impact data to your phone, allowing you to instantly assess the force of any fall or bump. Using a traffic light system, HIT helps you decide on the appropriate response, empowering parents to stay informed.
Is The Device Durable?
Yes, HIT is crafted from durable, weather-resistant materials designed for extreme sports. The material is rigid enough to protect the sensors while remaining pliable to minimize injury risk to the wearer.
Is the Device Waterproof?
HIT products have an IP64 rating, making it resistant to water and dust. It can handle light rain or showers but is not suitable for watersports or full submersion.

How Do I Charge My Device?

Can I Leave My Phone Elsewhere While Using HIT?
HIT Connect offers a Bluetooth range of over 100 meters under optimal conditions syncing with the App once they reconnect.
How Do I Attach the Device to My Helmet?
To secure the device to your equestrian, mountain biking, or cycling helmet, use the red VHB 3M pad on the back of the universal attachment. Peel off the adhesive layer, press and hold the device against the helmet surface for 5-10 seconds, then let it cure for up to 24 hours for a strong bond.
Does HIT Detect Impact Force?
Yes. HIT measures the force of impact, which can assist users in assessing potential injury risks. While HIT can recognize impact levels, it does not detect or diagnose concussions—this should always be done by a medical professional.
Does HIT Recognize Large Impacts?
Yes, HIT devices register and indicate large impacts, notifying users when significant forces are detected. HIT devices serve as a tool to help identify impactful forces that might otherwise go unnoticed, with data available for users to act upon as needed.
Can HIT Ltd Support Concussion Research?
Yes, HIT Ltd contributes to concussion research by tracking the severity and frequency of impacts. This data helps identify trends and correlations across various ages and activities, supporting the broader understanding of concussion risks.
Does Attaching HIT Affect My Helmet Warranty?
If uncertain, consult your helmet manufacturer. HIT does not alter the helmet's structural integrity and attaches externally like other accessories. Its attachment is designed to break away in extreme conditions to reduce any additional risk of damage.
How Accurate is HIT in Measuring Impact?
The accelerometer is accurate to within +/- 1 G. Placement near the occipital bone has shown reliable readings in tests, aligning impact severity with brain movement.
Has HIT Been Tested?
Yes, HIT has undergone extensive laboratory and real-world testing, allowing us to establish baseline traffic light thresholds. Green indicates normal lifestyle movements, while higher-force impacts are flagged as higher risk.
My Activity
How Do I View My Head Impact Data Log in the App?
You can view your data log in the App by selecting "Log" at the bottom right corner of your home screen. Your primary profile overview is also visible in the bottom right section of the home screen. When viewing your logs, use the on-screen navigation to switch between different activities and months.
Can I Download My Head Impact Record Data?
Yes, HIT is cloud-based, so your data is stored securely in the cloud, allowing easy access through the App or desktop. Click here to log in.
How Do I Download My Head Impact Data Log?
Log in to here with the email address linked to your user profile. You’ll be prompted to set up a password for future access. After logging in, you can view all dates with recorded impacts and download detailed data and impact levels.
Can I Share My Activity with Others?

How Safe and Secure Is My Personal Data? Is HIT GDPR Compliant?
HIT is committed to safeguarding your personal data and ensuring full compliance with GDPR. HIT Ltd only collects anonymized information such as weight, height, age, and sport. Your name is never collected and is only visible within your personal profile. This data is used to create heat maps correlating G-force impacts with user demographics, aiding in preventative strategies and advancing the understanding of the relationship between head impacts and brain injuries.
Troubleshooting
My Device is Not Turning On
Press and hold the button for 2-3 seconds, then release; the device should start flashing. If it doesn’t, the battery may be low. Charge your device for 10-15 minutes using the provided USB cable to fully recharge it. If there’s still no response from the LED lights, open the App to check if “connected” appears in the top left of the record screen. If the issue continues, please reach out to info@hitrecognition.com, and a HIT team member will assist you.
My Device is Not Turning Off
Hold and press the power button for 3-4 seconds and release. The device should show no lights blinking. If the problem persists, contact info@hitrecognition.com.
I Cannot See the Lights on the Screen
Your device may be out of battery. The green power light is ultra-low power and can appear dim. Try cupping your hand around the device to shade it and look closely to see if the green LED is blinking. If the issue continues after charging, please reach out to info@hitrecognition.com, and a HIT team member will assist you.
My GPS Location in not Correct
If you are using an iOS device, there are certain settings and features that might be affecting your GPS functionality. Even when location permissions are set correctly, iOS might still override your GPS settings in certain conditions.
To ensure your GPS works optimally, here are some recommended solutions:
1. Disable Low Power Mode: Low Power Mode can limit background GPS tracking. You can turn this off by going to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
2. Check Location Services Settings: Ensure that your app has the correct permissions by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Make sure the app is set to "Always."
3. Enable Background App Refresh: Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and ensure that it is turned on for your app.
4. Disable App Offloading: iOS may offload apps to save space, which could impact GPS tracking. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Offload Unused Apps and toggle this off.
5. Check for any Restrictions: Navigate to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Location Services, and ensure there are no restrictions that could be affecting your app's GPS functionality.
By following these steps, you can help ensure that your GPS operates smoothly on your iOS device.
If you are using an Android device, battery optimisation features, especially Google’s Doze mode, may interfere with GPS settings, even if location permissions are set to “Allow all the time.” Android may override GPS tracking when the screen locks.
To ensure your GPS works optimally, here are some recommended solutions:
1. Set HIT App to Unrestricted: Go to Settings > Apps > HIT Athlete > Battery > Unrestricted.
2. Turn Off Battery Saver Mode: Battery saver disables background GPS tracking. Toggle this off via Quick Settings.
3. Update Google Play Services Permissions: Settings > Location > App access to location > Google Play Services > Allow all the time.
4. Check for Sleeping Apps Restrictions: Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Sleeping apps — ensure HIT is not listed.
5. If You're Using Navigation Apps Simultaneously: Within Google Maps, try toggling "Launch Driving Mode" on or off, depending on your setup.
