About HIT Connect 2.0

HIT Connect 2.0 is a lightweight wearable sensor designed to measure linear and rotational head impacts during sport. The device can be attached to a helmet, goggle strap, or compatible HIT carrier, making it suitable for use across a wide range of sports. Impact data is captured and displayed through the HIT Athlete App or HIT Team App, giving athletes, parents, coaches, and support teams greater insight into individual impacts and cumulative head-impact exposure.

The HIT App makes this data easy to understand through a simple traffic-light warning system. Impact levels are assessed using G-force, linear acceleration, and cumulative G-force load measurements. By bringing these data points together, HIT provides a clearer picture of head-impact exposure and the physical demands placed on an athlete, helping athletes, parents, coaches, and support teams make more informed decisions around rest, recovery, and returning to training.

  • Green indicates low-force impact, typically safe and allowing the user to continue without restriction.
  • Yellow signals a moderate force where caution is advised; multiple yellow impacts in one session should prompt a check-up.
  • Red represents a high-force impact, and users are advised to stop activity, assess, and seek medical attention if necessary.

No. HIT Connect 2.0 is not a medical device and does not diagnose, detect, prevent or treat concussion or any other medical condition. It provides objective head-impact and activity data to support awareness, monitoring, research and informed decision-making. Any athlete with symptoms, concerns or a suspected head injury should stop participating and follow the appropriate sporting and medical protocols.

No. A concussion cannot be diagnosed from G-force or rotational data alone. HIT may provide useful context about an impact event, but the presence or absence of a recorded impact does not confirm whether an athlete has sustained a concussion. Diagnosis and return-to-play decisions must be made by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

The HIT apps use colour categories to make recorded impact data easier to interpret. Green represents lower-magnitude events within the configured impact range. Amber represents a higher-magnitude event that may warrant closer review, particularly when repeated during the same activity. Red represents a high-magnitude event that should be recognised and reviewed immediately. These colours are data categories, not medical diagnoses, and should be considered alongside the circumstances of the event, athlete feedback, symptoms and the relevant sporting protocol.

Cumulative impact load is a record of the head-impact exposure captured by HIT across an activity or period of time. It helps users look beyond a single large event and understand the combined exposure created by multiple impacts. HIT does not assign a medical diagnosis or universal safe limit to cumulative load. The information is intended to support monitoring, research and better-informed conversations around training and athlete welfare.

HIT is designed for athletes, parents, teams, coaches, clinicians and researchers involved in sports where falls, collisions or repetitive impacts may occur. Current use cases include mountain biking, road cycling, BMX, skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, equestrian sport, motorsport, American football, football, wrestling, combat sports, surfing and more. Getting Started & Recording

HIT Connect 2.0 uses NFC tap-to-connect functionality. When you select Record in the HIT Athlete App, an NFC scan prompt will appear. Hold your phone close to the HIT device and tap to scan. The NFC scan turns the device on, initiates the Bluetooth connection automatically and prepares the device for recording.

Please note that while iOS smartphones typically have their NFC reader located at the top of the phone, the NFC reader location can vary between Android devices. If you are using an Android device, move your phone slowly around the HIT device until the NFC scan is detected. The optimal scanning position will depend on the make and model of your Android device.

Once the connection is complete, the play button in the app will turn blue. Press the blue play button to begin recording. You do not normally need to connect the device manually through your phone's Bluetooth settings.

  • Confirm that the HIT app has the required permissions.
  • Make sure the device has sufficient charge.
  • Hold the correct area of the phone close to the device during the NFC scan.
  • Check that another phone is not already connected to the sensor.
  • Return to the recording screen and repeat the NFC tap, keeping the device close while Bluetooth connects.

Open the HIT Athlete App, select Record and follow the NFC tap prompt. Once the device has powered on and connected, the play button will turn blue. Press the blue play button to begin recording.

Stop the recording in the app and allow the data to finish synchronising. If automatic shutdown is enabled, the device will switch off automatically and return to sleep mode. If automatic shutdown is not enabled, you can switch the device off manually through the device settings in the app.

HIT Connect 2.0 can be switched off manually through the device settings in the HIT app. You can also enable automatic shutdown in Settings. When this setting is active, the device switches off automatically after you finish a recording. The device then remains in a low-power sleep state until it is activated again using the NFC tap-to-connect process.

Yes. HIT Connect 2.0 has internal storage and can continue recording when it is temporarily outside Bluetooth range. The data can be synchronised with the app when the device and phone reconnect. For the best GPS and live-app experience, keep the connected phone within range during the activity.

Battery & Charging

On a full charge, HIT Connect 2.0 provides approximately 50 hours of recording while powered on and connected to the companion app. When fully charged and left in sleep mode, the device can last for up to 20 days. Actual battery life may vary depending on recording time, Bluetooth activity, temperature and usage conditions.

For users completing only a small amount of live recording, we recommend charging the device for approximately 30 minutes every two weeks. For users completing frequent or longer live recordings, we recommend charging the device for approximately 30 minutes once per week. It is good practice to check the battery level in the app before an important training session, competition or event.

A 30-minute charge is suitable for routine top-ups. Users with minimal live recording should top up approximately every two weeks, while frequent users should top up once per week. Ensure the charging contacts are clean and dry before charging and use the supplied charging cable.

The HIT Athlete App

The HIT Athlete App is designed for individual users. It allows an athlete to connect a HIT device, start and stop an activity, view live information, review recorded impacts and access their activity history.

No. HIT Connect 2.0 communicates with your phone using Bluetooth. A mobile-data or Wi-Fi connection may be required to upload information to the HIT cloud, share activities, use remote monitoring features or access data from another device.

Yes. Open the completed activity in your log and select the activity or sport field to update it.

Yes. Open the activity log, select the available editing options and adjust the activity start or end time. The activity record will update to reflect the revised period.

Yes. The Athlete App allows users to share activity and impact information with selected people, such as a parent, coach, clinician or member of their support team. The person receiving access will need a HIT account, but does not need to own a HIT device. Users remain in control of who they share their information with and can remove access through the settings in the app.

Individual athletes should each have their own HIT account and profile. Parents or coaches can be given permission to view shared athlete activity through the Athlete App, or multiple athletes can be managed through the HIT Team App.

The Device & Mounting

HIT Connect 2.0 weighs approximately 15g. Its compact design allows it to be transferred between compatible helmets and attachment systems.

  • Clean and dry the mounting area.
  • Remove the adhesive backing.
  • Press the mount firmly against the helmet.
  • Allow the adhesive to cure before use.
  • Clip the device securely into the mount.
  • Avoid vents, moving parts, damaged surfaces and areas that interfere with normal helmet use.

Yes. The device can be removed from one compatible attachment and clipped into another, allowing a user to use the same Connect 2.0 across multiple helmets or sports. Additional mounts are available separately from our online store.

HIT attaches externally and does not require drilling or permanent structural modification of the helmet. Helmet construction, surface finishes and manufacturer policies vary, so users should check the guidance and warranty terms provided by their helmet manufacturer before fitting any external accessory.

HIT Connect 2.0 has an IP68 rating, providing protection against dust and water ingress, including submersion in water at depths of up to 2 metres. The device is designed to withstand normal outdoor sporting conditions, including rain, spray, sweat and conditions encountered during activities such as surfing. After use in wet conditions or submersion in water, thoroughly dry the device and charging contacts before charging.

Yes. HIT Connect 2.0 can be used in cold-weather sports. As with most battery-powered devices, very low temperatures may reduce battery performance. Keep the device charged and allow it to return to a dry, moderate temperature before charging after use.

Activities, Data & Accuracy

Open the HIT Athlete App and select your activity log. You can review completed activities, impact events, cumulative exposure and associated performance information.

Yes. Authorised users can access recorded data through the HIT platform and available dashboard tools. The information available for export may depend on the type of account, project or team access. To view your data on a desktop, visit the login page using your app credentials.

Synchronised activity data is stored through HIT's cloud platform so users can access their records across supported services and share information with authorised users. Recording data may remain on the device until it has been successfully synchronised.

HIT takes data protection and privacy seriously and applies appropriate controls to the storage, access and processing of user information. Data should only be shared with authorised people. Teams, schools, research organisations and users working with minors are responsible for ensuring that appropriate permissions and consent arrangements are in place. The device uses configured thresholds and algorithms to identify events that meet the criteria for recording. Not every movement or vibration will be displayed as a head-impact event. Users should also recognise that no wearable sensor can guarantee that every relevant event will be recorded in every environment.

HIT Connect 2.0 has been developed and tested to measure linear and rotational movement in sporting environments. Results can also be affected by device position, attachment, helmet movement, fit and the circumstances of the impact. HIT data should be treated as objective supplementary information, not as a direct measurement of brain movement or injury.

Connect 2.0 has undergone development, laboratory and real-world testing across different sporting environments. For research, technical, compliance or validation enquiries, contact HIT and specify the documentation or use case required.

Crash Alerts & Athlete Welfare

The HIT Athlete App can use configured impact information and location data to support an emergency-contact alert. Availability and operation may depend on phone permissions, Bluetooth connection, mobile signal, location services and app settings. It should not be relied upon as the only emergency-safety system.

Stop and assess how you are feeling. A high reading does not diagnose an injury, and a lower reading does not rule one out. Follow the relevant sporting concussion protocol and check for symptoms within the next 72 hours, as some symptoms may develop later. Seek appropriate medical attention where there are symptoms, concerns, loss of consciousness, deterioration or any other indication of injury.

No. HIT provides information that may support awareness and decision-making. It does not clear an athlete to continue, return to sport or return to training. Where concussion or injury is suspected, the athlete should be removed from activity and assessed in accordance with the applicable protocol.

Troubleshooting

  • Confirm that NFC and Bluetooth are enabled.
  • Make sure the device is charged.
  • Check that the app has the required Bluetooth, NFC and location permissions.
  • Keep the device close to the phone.
  • Check that another phone is not already connected.
  • Return to the Record screen and repeat the NFC tap.
  • Close and reopen the app if the connection does not complete.

Confirm that the recording has ended and data synchronisation has completed. Enable automatic shutdown in the device settings. When this is active, the device will switch off after the recording finishes. Otherwise, switch it off manually through the device settings in the app.

Keep the device close to the phone, open the app and maintain the Bluetooth connection until synchronisation finishes. Do not delete the app or reset the device while unsynchronised data remains on it.

Check that location permission is enabled and that the HIT app is permitted to use location services while recording at all times. Battery-saving settings on iOS and Android can restrict background GPS activity. GPS performance may also be affected by indoor venues, buildings, terrain and phone position or settings.

Wearable sensors can occasionally record events caused by handling, dropping equipment, clipping the device into a mount or moving a helmet when it is not being worn. Review the time, location and circumstances of the event alongside the session context.
